Description
I was in Sorrento, Italy enjoying the stunning Bay of Naples when I noticed a small garden like area. It faced a church and I saw this magnificent statue of St. Francis. It is a bronze sculpture of by renowned sculptor Alfiero Nena in is in the Piazza S. Francesco, Sorrento. The inscription on the base reads `Be praised my Lord with all your creatures`.
Sorrento is a small city in Campania, Italy, with some 16,500 inhabitants. It is a popular tourist destination. The town can be reached easily from Naples and Pompeii, The town overlooks the bay of Naples, as the key place of the Sorrentine Peninsula, and many viewpoints in the city allow sight of Naples itself (visible across the bay), Vesuvius and the island of Capri.
The angle I took for the photo had a very congested background of trees and leaves, so I replaced it with a textured image of sky. I wanted to emphasize the grace of the statue and show an image of freedom which St. Francis represents.
