Description
When I first saw some of these very large tan colored puffs, I assumed they were dandelions, though very large ones. However, I have since learned that they are the late stages of the Salsify wildflower, which when it blooms is a fairly small petaled flower. My first sighting was of them along an exit from the freeway and I had to carefully negotiate getting close enough for photos, But as of this year, they are growing in my back yard. No doubt I brought some of the seeds home with me.
Tragopogon dubius is the technical name, though Salsify is the title commonly used and often with the color purple since others are yellow. After getting the closeup up photo I wanted, I added several textures and blended them in a number of ways to create this final art.
