Description
I created this image from an original photograph of a neighbor's beautiful flowers. It was an early morning in spring after a night of heavy rain. I have seen these flowers a lot and never knew what they were called. I used a wonderful phone app, Picture This, that will identify photos of flowers and seems to be fairly accurate. This lovely flower is commonly called a Showy Evening Primrose.
The scientific name of its family is Onagraceae and contains about 150 species worldwide that range from small to large. They are native to the Americas, and is found from Pennsylvania west to Nebraska, south to Texas then eastward to Florida. It is also known from Connecticut, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and California as well as in northern Mexico. The evening primrose common name comes from the tendency of flowers in this family to open in the afternoon or evening, although some open in the morning.
I created this abstract, painterly version using Topaz Impression and Photoshop. I added several textures to create the grainy feel to the final image.
