Description
I recently visited Berkeley, California and in two days saw a number of well-known sites. But my guide was eager to show my some intriguing and less well-known places. One is Thornburg Village and this is a photo of the stairs leading to one of the homes.
Thornburg Village, was inspired by the art of humble European builders. Located in a grove of trees almost at the edge of the university campus, on Spruce Street just above Hearst, this unique project is daily attracting interested spectators. Combining in its rural European style the influences of villages from the Scandinavian peninsula to the Mediterranean, methods of construction are exhibited evoking the past.
Thornburg Village, which opened in 1927, was developed by Jack Thornburg and designed by William Raymond Yelland and Thornburg.
