Description
These beautiful flowers are commonly called coneflowers. They are found only in eastern and central North America. The plants have large, showy heads of flowers, blooming in summer. The generic name, Echinacea, is derived from the Greek meaning "sea urchin", due to the spiny central disk. I saw a lovely bunch of these growing against a wooden barn.
